Aims: The doctoral programme aims to prepare leading researchers in the use and development of Theoretical Chemistry methods, who will be able to work in the basic fields of chemistry, physics, material sciences, nanoscience and biochemistry. The doctoral studies shall guarantee the acquisition of the basic competences: systematic understanding of a field of study, and mastery of its skills and methods of research; ability to conceive, design or create, implement and adapt a substantial process of research or creation; ability to make critical and assessment analysis; synthesise new and complex ideas; ability to communicate with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about this field of knowledge; ability to promote, within academic and professional contexts, scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural advances in a knowledge-based society.

Description: Computational molecular modelling is already a tool that covers, in a cross-disciplinary way, many fields of knowledge, from biochemistry to new materials, passing through all the disciplines of chemistry and emerging areas such as nanoscience. Theoretical Chemistry predicts with high accuracy and at low cost the results of many experimental measures, it allows the understanding of observations at a basic level and to lead the way toward new discoveries. Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling has become a mandatory tool of many experimental sciences, leading to a growing demand of skilled staff in these fields. More and more companies consider modelling at molecular scale a tool for making rapid progress in the synthesis of new functional substances or new materials, as well as a way of reducing costs for obtaining them and for the study of its properties.
