The presentation of the book ‘L’ignonímia de l’oblit. Els valencians de la ribera als camps d’extermini nazis’ (‘The ignominy of oblivion. Valencians from the shore to the Nazi extermination camps’) in the Chamber of the City Council of Alberic by Ximo Vidal and Carles Senso.
In this act will intervene apart from the authors, Cristina Cristóbal, daughter of Amelia Mechó and Buenaventura Cristóbal, granddaughter of Luís Mechó Talens from Alberic that was deported to the concentration camp in Dachau (Germany).
The drama of the Valencian deported to the concentration camps of Nazis is known, but in this study it is carried out from a more concrete perspective, both from the territorial point of view - located in the Ribera region -, as vital, from the lived experience that has been collected in a bunch of biographies. This was a question of research that the historian’s role assume in the transmission and succession of memory as they wished the survivors of the extermination camps that aspired, before disappearing, to pass the witness as guardians of the memory. A role that the authors of the book have claimed that incorporate the concept ‘of having to remember’, applied here to the memory of those Valencians who suffered deportation and extermination after having to leave their land and go into exile.
