Place. Telematic. All the comics will be posted on the University of Valencia website with links to the participating universities.

Participants. Students of any Science Degree who have taken or are taking any subject focused on physiology.

  • Each university may submit up to a maximum of 4 comics.
  • Each comic will be submitted by teams of 2 to 5 students from the same or different Grade. Each team will be tutored by a professor from their university to supervise their work, which they will be able to choose freely.
  • Each University will have one or several local coordinators, who will establish the delivery dates of the works and manage the pre-selection in the event that the maximum number of teams allowed is exceeded. The local coordinator is the reference person for any questions about the contest. A local coordinator can also be a tutor.

Comic format. A comic related to a physiological process will be presented. Any aspect is considered valid, including cellular physiology, systems or pathophysiological aspects, as long as it has the following characteristics:

  • The comic may be made with any technique (digital, plastic, etc.), but images may not be used for which the authorship is not claimed. The use of templates or programs for the elaboration of digital comics is authorised.
  • The comic must have an extension of one page in vertical format.
  • The comic will be presented in PDF. An image resolution of at least 1536 X 1024 pixels (height x width) is recommended.
  • An explanatory summary of a maximum of 200 words must be attached to each comic.
  • Each author must include a Creative Commons license in his comic, which allows its free distribution, acknowledging authorship, but not commercial exploitation. More information at the following link https://creativecommons.org/licenses/?lang=es_ES.
  • Failure to comply with any of these rules may be grounds for exclusion from the contest.

Relevant dates.

  • The registration deadline will be March 31, 2023. (EXTENDED TO April 15, 2023) The registration will include the title of the comic proposal, the summary of its content and will be made by the coordinator of each University (consult the internal dates of your University with the local coordinator or on the website of the University of Valencia).
  • The comics reception deadline will be June 30, 2023. (EXTENDED TO July 7, 2023)
  • No comic will be accepted that has not been previously registered.

Selection. There will be a first phase in which each university, through its coordinators, will vote for the 4 best comics and will exclude those presented by their own institution. In a second phase, the 10 best rated comics will be evaluated by a jury made up of comics, design and scientific communication professionals.

Awards.

The 3 best comics will receive a cash prize:

  • First prize: 600 euros
  • Second prize: 300 euros
  • Third prize: 200 euros.

The 10 finalist teams will receive a batch of Graphic Medicine comics per group (copies subject to availability).

All contestants will receive an electronic certificate of participation.
