I decided to study the Degree in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences because I have always liked Biology very much and I had no doubts that I wanted to be a researcher in this field. I saw an excellent opportunity in the new Degree of the UV, for it had a curriculum that offered a molecular and cellular vision of Biology, some aspects that have always draw my attention.

In my view, the Degree in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences of the UV, is one of the most complete degrees within the degrees focused on research in the areas of Molecular Biology and Biomedicine. The first academic year is on basic training, with subjects that are common to other degrees, so we have to wait until the second year to get in contact with Molecular Biology. This is totally paid-off in the following years.

The Degree of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences is the best first step that a person who is interested in both basic (molecular biology, genetics, etc.) and applied research (human health, specially) may take. Apart from acquiring endless theoretical and practical knowledge, I reckon all of us finish the degree having acquired a series of principles and values that allow us to make important discoveries in sciences, regardless the field of study.

One of the most difficult decisions for students to make is to choose which degree they are going to study. It involves a really important decision, without any doubt, for in most cases it determines their professional future, so they must be accurate in the choosing. In my case, I had always been clear about studying something related to health sciences. I have always been told to study “Medicine”, but eventually I opted for Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences in the UV, and I don’t regret about my choosing.
