Weighting for access from Bachillerato (upper secondary school)
To access undergraduate studies you must pass the university entrance examinations (PAU) and pre-enrol.
The PAU exams have two phases: one compulsory with indefinite validity and one voluntary and valid for two consecutive years.
In the voluntary phase, the two best marks once weighted by 0.1 or 0.2 are counted (see weighting chart).
It is important to distinguish between the university entrance mark (NAU) and the university admission mark (NAT):
- NAU = cumulative average mark of Bachillerato (60%) + average mark of the PAU compulsory phase (40%)
NAT = NAU + [weighting x M1 PAU voluntary phase] + [weighting x M2 PAU voluntary phase]
Subjects M1 and M2 correspond to the two best marks for the subjects passed in the voluntary phase once weighted by 0.1 or 0.2, according to the link of the subjects taken in Bachillerato to the chosen degree programme.
Different NAT scores may be obtained depending on which subjects are examined in the voluntary phase and their links to different degree programmes.
In summary, with the NAU (between 5 and 10) you can access the university but if you wish to improve your mark you have to take the PAU voluntary phase in subjects in your field of study and obtain a NAT score. This can add up to four points to the initial NAU score (up to 14 points).
Weighting for access from advanced vocational training
To access undergraduate degrees if you are a vocational training technician, plastic arts and design technician, sports technician or equivalent, you must pre-enrol with the cumulative average mark of the relevant studies.
Starting from the 2010-2011 academic year you can access any degree programme from advanced vocational training (CFGS). With the cumulative average mark from the training modules (between 5 and 10 points) you can access the university. However, if you wish to improve your mark you may take up to four subjects in your field of study in the PAU voluntary phase.
The marks from the voluntary phase are weighted by 0.1 or 0.2 (see chart), and can improve your average mark by up to 4 points (a maximum of 14 points). The two best marks once weighted by 0.1 or 0.2 are counted. The formula to obtain the admission mark is as follows:
- Admission mark = average mark of the training modules + [weighting x M1 PAU voluntary phase] + [weighting x M2 PAU voluntary phase]
M1 and M2 = two best marks for the subjects passed in the voluntary phase once weighted by 0.1 or 0.2
