Wednesday 11th March at 6 p.m., the book Comunicar i marcar la diferència. Testimonis de joves periodistes valencianes (Catalan for Communicating while making a difference. Testimonial of young Valencian women journalists) will launch at the Conference Hall Sanchis Guarner in the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication of the UV. Next, a debate on Journalism and equality will take place with Ana Pardo de Vera, Corporate Director of International Relations of Publico.es, and four authors of the book: María Iranzo, Laura López, Laia Mas and Carolina Salvador.

The event will feature the participation of Mavi Mestre, Principal of the Universitat de València; Amparo Ricós, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication; Carolina Moreno, coordinator of the Teaching Unit of the Degree in Journalism; Adolfo Carratalá and Dolors Palau, teaching staff in Journalism and members of the book’s editing team.

The labour market condemns women journalists, one of the most feminised professions, to worse working conditions and more difficult to advance in their careers than their male colleagues. As of this statement, the testimonial in first person by 30 women graduated in Journalism by the Universitat de València gives visibility to the difficulties that they face to access communication companies, particularly to the most prestigious and powerful areas. What barriers do they encounter to pursue their occupation? Is the media receptive? Does media value and recognise how women see and tell realities? Should we demand a feminine style and way of performing communication tasks? Do the organisational structures of companies and the dominant discourses of the media continue to perpetuate dominant perceptions and schemes of the past?
