This degree offers academic training for a variety of professional activities that require a good knowledge of both the mother tongue and foreign languages, and whose general objective is interlinguistic communicative mediation. These professional activities include the translation of written texts in their different forms, the interpretation of oral discourses in a variety of contexts, and the revision or adaptation of texts for different communicative purposes.

Professionals who complete this degree play a very important role in international public organizations, embassies, consulates, and all types of diplomatic activities that involve interlinguistic mediation. Their role is also crucial for private companies with an international presence. The transnational expansion of markets requires linguistic and cultural localization of advertising and information, for which graduates of this degree are highly competent professionals. Cultural industries are also increasingly transnational in scope, which means that, beyond the established field of literary translation, there is a need for the translation of audiovisual texts in their various forms, the translation and adaptation of video games and other products offered on social networks. Tourism, of course, requires competent professionals for interlinguistic mediation tasks. Translation and interpreting are also required in various specialized fields, such as the translation and editing of scientific and technological texts, economic texts, legal texts, etc., the administration of justice, and the development of social integration policies, such as those involved in subtitling for the deaf or audio-description, and interpreting for public services.

Translators and interpreters can work as employees in private translation agencies, publishing houses or language service companies, or as staff members in public institutions and private companies. They can also work as freelancers in different professional fields that require interlinguistic mediation. Additional accreditation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may also allow them to work as certified legal translators in Spain.
