We are looking for a talented and highly motivated predoctoral student to carry out a PhD thesis project in our new Fast cellular response to environmental stress in plants group at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Valencia / Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine BIOTECMED. This is a 3.5 year full-time contract position (approximate starting date: September 2023), with possibility of extension.

The project

Plants cannot modify their location during sudden environmental changes caused as consequence of the climate change. To adapt to these alterations or abiotic stresses, plants have developed fast cellular responses. Microtubules (MTs) are the best candidates for cellular components perceiving cell stress signals and triggering the cellular response. The main goal of this project is to understand how MTs coordinate sensing and response pathways during rapid cellular response to heat stress and UV-B radiation.

Your profile

Applicants must hold an official MSc degree related to molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry or biotechnology. The following would be considered a plus: previous experience in the field of plant cell biology, standard cell (especially confocal microscopy) and molecular biology techniques; fluency in English (written and spoken); and the ability to work independently and in a team. The successful candidate must be admitted to a doctoral program at the University of Valencia at the time of signing the contract.

If you are motivated, talented and passionate about plant cell biology, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. To apply, please send your CV and a cover letter to Juan Carlos Montesinos (juan.montesinos@uv.es). Applications will be evaluated as received and the position will remain open until the candidate is selected.
