METEOSAFETY

METEOSAFETY aims of the study, definition, implementation and verification of measures and processes to optimize the effectiveness of the systems of meteorological stations and warning the drivers.
Description
It is expected to design a system that improves the effectiveness of current procedures incorporating prognosis and aid decision making in order to increase safety levels and reduce the risk of accidents.

The project spans from the analysis of key factors, the analysis of the optimal architecture for systems installation, the design and construction of intelligent modules, to the execution of a pilot test to evaluate the effectiveness of the system, for which it has supported by the DGT.

The aim of the project is to study and define a set of measures and procedures to optimize the efficiency of detectors-actuators, consisting of weather stations and warning systems to drivers in the prevention of accidents which were created in meteorological factors. In turn, four sub aims are defined:

  •  To study in depth the influence of meteorological factors in conjunction with traffic conditions and the features of the tracks on the accident rate.
  •  To produce a guide of recommendations for the installation of these weather systems in areas at risk in order to optimize available resources.
  •  To design an intelligent management system to improve the current systems, incorporating a module for weather forecast of risk and other aid to decision making.
  •  To designing a system to disseminate vehicle- infrastructure RDS -TMC alert messages by transmitting RDS -TMC messages located in the problem area.
  •  To run a pilot test where the effectiveness of the proposed system is evaluated and checked the operation of the prototype information dissemination system based on RDS -TMC. This test would come supported by the General Directorate of Traffic.
