The multi-coloured spaces are an awareness-raising and information project of diversitats, initiated last year, and which is run by volunteers who have received training in diversity as part of Sedi's UV Volunteering programme.

The first edition took place between March and May 2021 and, due to the pandemic, was mainly virtual. All university libraries displayed posters with information about the project, the volunteer student body held virtual service stays at set times, and socio-cultural and awareness-raising activities were promoted through social networks.

On the occasion of Libraries Day, on 24th October last year, the service was reactivated with a pilot project of a multi-coloured space in physical format in the hall of the Social Sciences Library. The space, which was inaugurated as part of the Festa de Benvinguda, was run by a trainee student until the end of November 2021.

This year's multi-coloured space will open on 9th March at 4 p.m. and will remain open until Friday 13th May. The opening hours will be Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Friday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

This new multi-coloured space in Humanities will be run by a new team of volunteers who will inform students about the UV's Protocol of attention to gender identity and expression and will resolve doubts about the procedure for changing names and reissuing degrees. The multi-coloured point will also provide information and support in case of complaints, harassment or discriminatory behaviour, disseminating the new UV'sProtocol for action and response to sexual harassment, gender-based harassment and other discriminatory harassment. The team of volunteers will publicise the future Diversitats Plan; they will promote activities and awareness-raising campaigns on the occasion of relevant international days and will disseminate Diversitats' socio-cultural and educational programme.

On the occasion of the inauguration of this multi-coloured space, various socio-cultural activities have been organised:

  • On 8th March at 5:30 p.m. on the terrace of the "Maria Moliner" Education Library, we will talk about visibility and the need for LGTBI references among teachers with Ricard Huerta, professor in the Department Teaching of Musical, Visual and Corporal Expression at the UV, who will present his book "Profesorado LGTB" (Tirant lo Blanch, 2021). Unfortunately, this is a highly topical subject in light of the homophobic group aggression against a high school teacher in Bétera.
  • On 10th March at 10:30 a.m. we will talk about identity, migration and anti-racism issues from the perspective of journalism with Paloma Chen, poet and anti-racist journalist. This proposal, led by Luna Valle, Journalism student at the UV, is included in the programme of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication for the 8th of March. The meeting will take place in the Cultural Space of the centre, located on the first floor of the building.
  • On 10 March at 12 p.m., the conference "Narrativas encarnadas de travestis del Sur. Literatura no cis-complaciente", given by the writer, performer and visual artist, Iki Yos Piña. This activity, organised by the group Hybrida of the UV (Cultural hybridisations and migrant identities), belongs to further training aimed at Master’s degree in Language and Literature Research students, and it is part of the activities around the 8M of the centre and will also take place in the Cultural Space of the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.

Admission to these activities is free and registration is not required, but seating is limited.

With this project, diversitats aims to publicise the university service and resources on diversity, to join the UV's 8M programme and to support the Valencia City Council's campaign which this year has the slogan “Intersectionality is: FEMINISM FOR ALL”.
