Elena Cantarino, new dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences

Elena Cantarino Suñer is the new dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the Universitat de València. She is the first woman in the area of Philosophy to assume this position. She replaces pedagogue Rosa María Bo Bonet, who has completed her two terms of office. Elena Cantarino has obtained 25 votes in favour and 9 blank votes.
The new dean’s team is composed by Óscar Cubo Ugarte, professor of the Department of Philosophy (Secretary); Emelina López González, professor of the Department of Research and Diagnostic Methods in Education (Vice-Deanship of Academic Organisation and Degree and Post-degree Studies); Juan García Rubio, professor in the Department of Didactics and School Organisation (Vice-Deanship of Quality, Innovation and Technologies); Carmen Carmona Rodríguez, professor in the Department of Research and Diagnostic Methods in Education (Vice-deanship of Research, Mobility and Internships); and Esther Roca Campos, professor in the Department of Comparative Education and History of Education (Vice-Deanship of Equality, Diversity and Social Impact).
Elena Cantarino is professor of Moral Philosophy and Political Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy. She holds a degree in Philosophy and Educational Sciences from the UV, a PhD in Philosophy (cum laude and extraordinary award) and, subsequently, a master's degree in Psycho-pedagogy (also with an extraordinary award). She currently has six five-year teaching periods and five six-year research periods.
She was a predoctoral and postdoctoral researcher (PFPI), doctoral candidate (Reincorporation Programmes and Ramón y Cajal Programme), researcher at other universities (Université de Provence I and Université Catholique de Louvain) and visiting professor at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Editor of the works of Baltasar Gracián and Saavedra Fajardo, author of numerous works on Spanish Baroque thought, she is,together with Emilio Blanco, director of the 'Seminario Internacional Gracián y sus conceptos' (since 2001), founder and director of the journal 'Conceptos. Revista de investigación graciana' (since 2004), and of the group GRICOBA (Grupo de Investigación en Conceptos Barrocos). She is currently director of the CONCEPMU project (Philosophical, Ethico-Political and Legal Concepts of Women, since 2018) and editor of the collective work: 'Concepts in Women. Materials for an inclusive history of concepts'. She is also coordinator of the consolidated innovation group GEIMFUS (Grupo Estable de Innovación Metodológica en Filosofía para Universidad y Secundaria) and coordinates, since 2019, the Philosophy Olympics.
She was president of the Universities Commission of the REF (Spanish Philosophy Network of which she is now a member), is vice-president of the Asociación de Hispanismo Filosófico (AHF) and belongs to the Board of Directors of the Asociación Española de Ética y Filosofía Política (AEEFP) and of the GENET Network of Gender Studies. She is also a member of other philosophy associations (SFPV, SAF) and sits on various editorial boards of scientific journals and on national and regional evaluation committees.
She is also a member of the Senate of the Universitat de València and, as Vice-Dean for Academic Planning, Studies and Culture (2018-2024), she has been a member of various commissions of the Universitat de València, such as the Bachelor's Degree Advisory Commission of Studies and the Constitutional Committee.
