The health research has suffered significant changes in the last decade. The digital tools have completely transformed the situation in all its dimensions -basic and applied- and in both clinical research and pharmacological trials.

The research processes accelerate and reach a greater depth thanks to the so-called Big Data, and the possibility to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) processes capable of learning from the data to make inferences and to offer predictability, and the advance of the techniques of Machine learning offers previously impossible methodologies of information treatment. In this regard, we have access to digital information which could be used in the health research. As a result, there would be less pharmacological expenses, significant improvements in the diagnosis tools and a speeding-up in the research processes with more data, more people involved and more quickly.

However, the sensitivity of the information being processed requires to give full assurances of respect for the patient's privacy and the fundamental right to data protection to the community. On the other hand, the application of the normative framework requires the understanding of research necessities. And this understanding is bidirectional. If it is considered as necessary to integrate conditions of normative compliance and to guarantee safety, regulators cannot offer generic solutions hosted in reality. To find spaces to build shared knowledge is essential.

In the session which will take place on 26 and whose capacity composed of researchers and health professionals is complete, these issues will be addressed from different points of view: research, information security and legal. In order to do so, there will be distinguished speakers with reputable professional career in their field. The Chair for Privacy and Digital Transformation of the Universitat de València bets on a progressive and open view to detect the needs of the researchers, to encourage the formation of interdisciplinary teams and to provide the patients with safety and confidence.

A little less than a year of the full enforcement of the General Law of data protection (25 May 2018) and in a context of reformatting the Organic Law of Protection of Personal Data, it is necessary to address the future of health research from the identification of opportunities that this new framework offers.
