29th Conference on Information, celebrated 30 January 2025, in Aula Magna of the Facultat de Medicina i Odontologia de la Universitat de València.

Almost three hundred people, including guidance professionals and members of secondary school and higher level training cycles management teams, attended the 29th Conference on Information of the “Conèixer la Universitat” program held on 30 January in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine i Dentistry de la Universitat de València. Delia Langa Rosado, Professor of Sociology in the University of Jaen, has given the principal conference titled “The students of popular classes: access and term in the university”.

The Principal of the Universitat de València (UV), Maria Vicenta Mestre, has addressed some words to the people attending in the institutional welcome in which she has highlighted “the important task the guiding and teaching staff do” to facilitate the decision-making of the pre-universitary. She has defended the role of the UV as a public university and opened to society, and the need to have more resources to increase the number of places in the most demanded degrees. For her part, the Vice-Principal for studies, Isabel Vázquez, has highlighted the importance of the coordination between the Universitat de València and the high schools, and has advanced that this course the program Conèixer will include a new activity: the open visits to the university.

In the principal conference titled The students of popular classes: access and term in the university, the teacher of the University of Jaen Delia Langa has addressed how the structural social inequalities of Spain, that have been more exacerbated through the last years than in other European countries, affect the academic career of the students. The Bologna process, the rate increase, the scholarship system, the interlocking crisis, etc., have cause, according to Langa, a retention of the education system in which “the role of education as a social lift has become defective” and, although the efforts are being redoubled to study in a polycrisis context, the popular classes search for new strategies, like Vocational Training, and quit university formation. The social inequality expert has questioned “if there are too many university students or if what is needed is equity” so that students from any social class can have different educative options on hand. Measurements like the configuration of scholarship system like a right or modify the conditions to reduce the risks of abandonment or the prolongation of studies, can contribute to face this situation, she defended.

Next, Alícia Villar Aguilés, delegate of the principal for academic careers of the UV, has lead the experience table Do you know the degree of...? Degrees to discover in the Universitat de València Three groups of teachers and students have participates to share their experience and keys to understand who can be interested in each degree: Irene del Canto Serrano, teacher in the degree of Telecommunications Electronic Engineering, and Víctor Alonso del Moral, undergraduate degree of Telecommunications Electronic Engineering; Artemi Cerdá Bolinches, teacher in the degree of Geopraphy and Environment and coordinator of the first, and Roberto Ayuso, undergraduate degree of Geography and Environment; and Javier Guardiola, teacher of the degree of Criminology and the vice-dean of the Faculty of Law, and Nino Gurchiani, undergraduate degree on Criminology.

The session has continued with the presentation Dual Mention, an option of present with future, in which it has been explained the implantation of the first dual mentions in degrees of the Valencian university system. The Universitat de València is a pioneer in having this programmes, that combine academic training and paid employment, in the degrees of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Isabel Vázquez, Vice-Principal for studies, has introduces the functioning of dual mentions to the UV, that have taken care to explain Laura Pastor, coordinator of dual mention in the Chemical Engineering Degree; Antonio Gómez Simeón, finance director and Omar Coatings S.A.
