Principal Mavi Mestre participates in Gandia in the National Research Awards Ceremony

Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain presided over the National Research Awards ceremony this morning at the Ducal Palace of Gandia. The ceremony was attended by the Principal of the Universitat de València, Mavi Mestre, accompanied by the Vice-Principal Carlos Hermenegildo, president of the RUVID network.

At 12:00, the Ducal Palace of Gandia hosted the presentation ceremony of the National Research Awards 2023. These prestigious awards are granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and recognise the merit of Spanish researchers who are carrying out outstanding work in scientific fields of international relevance and who make a significant contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the progress of humanity.

The event was presided over by the King and Queen of Spain and the Minister of Science and Universities, Diana Morant. It was also attended by the President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, and the Mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto. An event of great importance for the city of Gandia, which was also attended by the Principal of the UV, Maria Vicenta Mestre, accompanied by Carlos Hermenegildo, vice-principal for Research and President of the Valencian University Network for the Promotion of Research, Development and Innovation.

Four Valencians have received this prestigious recognition: Luis Enjuanes, researcher at the National Biotechnology Centre, who has received the Gregorio Marañón National Research Award, in the area of Medicine and Health Sciences; Marta Martínez, from the Food Science Research Institute, is Ángeles Alvariño National Research Award for Young People, in the area of Material Resources Sciences and Technologies; Manuel Arellano, Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford, winner of the Pascual Madoz National Research Award, received the prize in the area of Law and Economic and Social Sciences, and Javier García, Doctor in Inorganic Chemistry, received the Juan de la Cierva National Research Award in the area of Knowledge Transfer. 

This is the third time that the awards have been presented outside Madrid. A historic event, therefore, for the city of Gandia, which is also home to the UV through the Gandia International Centre.
