The CIS (the Spanish Centre for Sociological Research) has allocated the elaboration of an enquiry to Carles Xavier Simó Noguera, a tenured professor of the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology of the Universitat de València. The enquiry addresses the changes that young people experience when they become adults.

The project led by Simó will elaborate a method of inquiry that will be entitled “Biographies of emancipation, generations and social change in Spain”. Carles Xavier Simó will work with a doctoral student of the University Professor Teaching Programme (FPU), David Gil Solsona; and professor Almudena Moreno Mínguez (Universidad de Valladolid). The CIS highlights in its project allocation resolution “Simó’s undeniable interest, his methodological excellency, his opportuneness, his advisability and the confirmed experience of the research team.”

This method of inquiry will provide retrospective data on the first steps towards adult life of young generations in Spain, especially on their domestic stories and their process of emancipation, but also other aspects of their youth. “We aim to obtain specific data of the biographies of different generations of young people to compare them and study how changes in our country have had an impact on these generations” explains the professor Simó Noguera. “Thanks to a detailed register of events compiled from 16-35 years-old interviewees; we try to observe how their domestic, labour, educational and family experiences have been turning more complex and diverse. This is a tendency that has already been studied and analysed in other Western countries.”

The research team will have thirty days to elaborate a detailed draft of the method of enquiry from the commentaries and recommendations that the CIS elaborated to the contents of the original proposal.
