The Universitat de València hosts the 40th Conference of Teachers with Romani people

The Principal Peset Hall of Residence of the Universitat de València hosts this weekend the 40th Conference of Teachers with Romani people The initiative aims to respond to training needs, as well as information and communication of materials and experiences. Lectures, round tables, exhibitions and group work complete the programme.

Among the participants were José de Lamo, General Director of Equality in Diversity of the Department of Equality and Inclusive Policies of the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government); Maria Teresa Ibáñez, Delegate Councillor for Education of València City Council; María Carmen de Santos, President of the association Enseñantes con Gitanos (Spanish for Teachers with Roma people); and Carles Xavier López, Director of the Principal Peset Hall of Residence.

There will be presentations by Gerardo Echeita, professor at the Faculty of Psychology at the Autonomous University of Madrid; José Manuel Fresno, founder and director of Fresno, the right link; and Pastora Filigrana, labour lawyer, trade unionist, feminist and human rights activist.

In addition, different experiences will be presented, such as the Pact against school segregation in Catalonia, the Bofill Foundation Report and the Generalitat’s Kumpania programme, as well as the conclusions of the Roma youth meeting organised in parallel to the conference.

All the activities will take place at the Principal Peset Hall of Residence and can be followed via streaming through this link (https://www.uv.es/eventos/) with the exception of the presentation of the book La Puerta Entorná: lírica flamenca y gitanidad, by Joaquín López Bustamante, which will take place on Saturday 3rd at 6 p.m. in the Refectory Hall of the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània with free entrance until full capacity is reached.

As part of the conference, the association publicly presents its work and demands and also holds its General Assembly to evaluate the year’s work and to propose and guide future activities.

This activity has been promoted through Diversitats, an initiative promoted by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Policies of the Universitat de València, which works to break stereotypes and make diversity visible in our university, promoting the effective right to equality of all the people who are part of it.
