The University of Valencia joins the challenge of the climate mission

The University of Valencia (UV) and Valencia City Council have signed an agreement to incorporate it into the process to achieve climate neutrality by 2030. The event took place in the Cristal Saloon of the City Hall where the Mayor, Joan Ribó and the Rector of the UV *Mavi Mestre have carried out the protocolary signature in the presence of the Minister of Universities, Joan Subirats, and other members of the municipal corporation.

In his speech, Joan Ribó emphasised the need to incorporate the best knowledge, the best science and advanced research in all areas of urban policies. He also spoke of the fact that the signing of this agreement aims to establish the foundations of a long-term strategic collaboration between the university and the city to incorporate the concept of science, research and innovation as key elements in the process of transforming the city towards climate neutrality .

Ribó recalled that in a context of climate emergency, Valencia has placed the climate mission at the heart of the Valencia 2030 Urban Strategy and is being addressed as a city project, not as a government project.

The agreement, which is valid for 4 years and can be extended for a further 4 years, aims to create a partnership between the university and the city that will enable the incorporation of science, research and innovation as key elements in developing the transformation process. The university will contribute knowledge, research and working methodology as well as its educational spaces and campuses as reference points for innovation and climate neutrality.

The Mayor of Valencia recalled some of the initiatives of the University of Valencia to promote public purchases and healthy eating.

This agreement includes the creation of a joint monitoring committee and working groups to develop each of the strategic lines of collaboration.
