The Social Observatory of the ”la Caixa” Foundation has selected the project Trajectories of Change Among Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrators: The Role of Early Exposure to Violence (CX26-00201), led by Cristina Expósito, in the fifth edition of the Conecta: From Research to Social Practice call. The proposal was one of 17 projects funded out of 207 submissions.

The project will be jointly carried out by the University of Valencia, through the VIO-Strategy research group, led by Marisol Lila and Enrique Gracia, and the PSIMA Association. This collaboration, established over more than 15 years, will combine scientific rigor with direct experience in interventions with men who perpetrate intimate partner violence.

The project will assess participants’ progress throughout the program and examine whether those who were exposed to violence during childhood follow different trajectories of change compared with those who were not. It will also identify their specific needs and assess whether the intervention should be adapted by incorporating a trauma-informed approach.

The findings will be translated into practice through a set of intervention guidelines and a training workshop for professionals and organizations that implement programs for intimate partner violence perpetrators. These efforts will help improve the effectiveness of interventions with perpetrators, strengthen violence prevention, and enhance victim safety.
