Fifth edition opens for the Master in Specialised Optometry for Refractive Surgery and Contact Lenses
2026–2027The Universitat de València master's programme in which members of the research group take part in the academic direction and teaching reaches its fifth edition in the 2026–2027 academic year. The 60-ECTS, fully online programme offers advanced training in optometric assessment associated with refractive and cataract surgery and specialised contactology. Taught in Spanish. A non-diffractive approach to full-range vision after cataract surgery
Open AccessA new study led by Prof. H. Burkhard Dick from Bochum University Hospital and Prof. Alejandro Cerviño presents the first preclinical optical evaluation of the novel Asqelio™ PairedFocus™ intraocular lens, comparing its performance with the Asqelio™ EDOF lens. Although both non-diffractive lenses share the same wavefront-shaping PhaseRing technology, PairedFocus™ features a modified optical design specifically optimized to extend vision into the near range and exhibits a distinct optical profile that falls outside current EDOF criteria. Optical-bench testing showed comparable distance performance for both lenses, with Asqelio™ EDOF providing stronger intermediate performance and PairedFocus™ significantly enhancing near performance beyond +2.50 D while preserving distance optical quality. The study also demonstrated the complementary nature of their optical profiles, which, when combined within the Balanced Extended Vision Procedure (BEVPx), provide a continuous range of predicted functional vision from distance to near.
