Vision, global health & social impact

Our group understands vision and eye-health research not only as a means of generating knowledge, but also as a pathway to help reduce health inequalities. Part of our activity is therefore directed at studying and improving visual and ocular health in populations and settings especially shaped by social, economic, geographic or environmental factors. This line of work integrates research, international cooperation and collaboration with non-governmental organisations, with particular attention to the objective evaluation of the interventions carried out and to the generation of evidence that can improve their effectiveness and sustainability.

Collaboration with Visió Sense Fronteres

Our research group collaborates with researchers and professionals connected to Visión Sin Fronteras, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to improving access to vision care. This collaboration connects academic research with field-based eye-care initiatives and provides opportunities to evaluate their clinical, functional and social impact.

One of the academic connections within this collaboration takes place through the co-supervision of doctoral research with Dr. Isabel Signes, president of Visión Sin Fronteras, previously associate lecturer at the Universitat de València and currently Adjunct Researcher at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kenya.

Visió Sense Fronteres is an independent organisation. Its activities are not projects of the research group; the relationship described here is a research collaboration.
