  • Decision-making and stress. The study of decision-making under conditions of uncertainty and physiological arousal is one of the laboratory's main research areas. Experimental tasks such as the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) and the Balloon Analog Risk Task (BART) are used in combination with physical and psychosocial stressors (e.g., Cold Pressor Test, Trier Social Stress Test). This approach allows us to analyze how stress-related arousal and individual differences modulate decision-making behavior.
  • Psychophysiology and electrophysiology of behavior. The laboratory's research systematically incorporates human electrophysiology methods to study the physiological correlates of behavior and emotional experience. Variables such as electrocardiogram, electrodermal activity, respiration, and electroencephalogram are recorded during experimental tasks. These measures are integrated with psychological assessments in order to characterize the dynamics of the autonomic and central nervous systems across different experimental contexts.
  • Bodily processes and interoception. Another focus of interest lies in processes at the intersection of cognition, emotion, and physiology, such as interoception, respiratory control, and chronic pain. From a psychophysiological perspective, the mechanisms by which the perception and regulation of bodily signals relate to subjective experience and behavior are examined.
  • Music, emotion, and psychophysiology. Music is an element present in virtually every culture; however, its vast diversity demands a precise and rigorous analysis. This line of research investigates the emotional, cognitive, and psychophysiological responses to music, exploring how different musical parameters modulate physiological arousal, affective states, and cognitive processes, as well as its potential therapeutic applications.
