Human behavior is fascinating. "If you want to understand a person, don't listen to their words, observe their behavior," said Einstein. However, observable behavior cannot be understood without attending to the physiological foundations that sustain and regulate it. From this perspective, the research group Laboratory of Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience (BACNeuLab) focuses its activity on the study of the psychophysiological mechanisms underlying human behavior, with special attention to the interaction between body, emotion, and cognition.

Our research is aimed at understanding how physiological states influence emotional experience and complex processes such as decision-making, as well as the regulation of stress and anxiety. We pay special attention to bodily processes such as breathing, interoception, and autonomic nervous system activation, analyzing how their variability and dynamics are associated with different behavioral patterns, both adaptive and maladaptive.

The work carried out in the laboratory relies primarily on methods from electrophysiology and human psychophysiology, including the recording of cardiovascular variables, electrodermal, respiratory, electroencephalographic, and hormonal activity, combined with experimental tasks designed to assess emotional, interoceptive, and decision-making processes. Data analysis is performed using tools such as SPSS, Python, RStudio, Jamovi, and JASP, employed both for the processing and analysis of physiological signals and for the statistical analysis of experimental data.
