Researchers from the DSDC Research Group have published an article in the journal Meas. Science and Technology.

The Digital Communications Systems Design (DSDC) Research Group at the University of Valencia, in collaboration with the Würth Elektronik – University of Valencia EMC Chair (EMC WE-UV), has published a new scientific article in Measurement Science and Technology by IOP Publishing.

The article, titled “Determination of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness using an enhanced Absorber Box method: theoretical, simulation, and experimental approaches” (DOI: 10.1088/1361-6501/ade55a), presents advanced characterization of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (SE), which is essential for high-frequency applications such as 5G communications, automotive, radar, and aerospace. Addressing the limitations of standardized methods like ASTM D4935-18 and IEEE 299-2006, this study introduces an optimized Absorber Box methodology that improves measurement accuracy, extends the frequency range beyond 1.5 GHz, and reduces edge diffraction effects. The approach offers a controlled testing environment in a more compact setup than anechoic chambers, validated through finite element method simulations and experimental results showing excellent correlation, effectively distinguishing materials with different SE levels.

This study is part of the Advanced Materials program and has received support from the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN), with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU (PRTR-C17.I1) and the Generalitat Valenciana (project reference: MFA/2022/060).
