What do we offer?

  1. Our team has developed a programme named ‘Plan de Redacción y Lectura Crítica de la Investigación Científica (PRe)’ (writing and critical reading of scientific research programme). This is directed towards students and scientists, with the main goal of providing fundamental competences of writing and active reading of literature, as well as raising awareness about the issues that currently (and cyclically, throughout the history of science) affect the quality of the evidence found through research. It provides training in research methodology applied to critical reading, as well as to the development of empirical research capable of producing the best scientific evidence. The PRe programme treats topics such as the integrity of scientific staff, Questionable Research Practices (PIC), the benefits of Open Sciences, research culture, publication bias, the study of the risk of bias in primary and secondary studies, or transparency in the writing of reports and articles. In this sense, our Research Unit has also become an Integrity Principles in Science Laboratory (Pi-Science) that conducts research on the aforementioned topics.
  2. We also run an outreach programme about scientific activities and the social aspect of science, aimed at all students and society in general. Its main goal is to cover both key aspects of the research design process and the publication of the results, in an attempt to make the participants understand why science is done, how it is done and how it is spread. These activities are pivotal to disseminate and explain scientific conclusions, and to avoid misinterpretations of scientific news or images. This is done by encouraging participants to critically or actively evaluate the information that is daily spread through the media. These activities belong to a science outreach line of work named ‘Emociónate con los datos’ (feel passion for data).
  3. Participate in Research Projects as members of the work group with the goal of giving answers to knowledge needs approached from the perspective of evidence-based practice.
  4. Develop measuring instruments (scales, indices and surveys) adapted to the research needs and to the phenomena that are being studied.
  5. Integrate the use of open access statistical software into the researcher’s work methodology.
  6. Contribute to the progress of scientific knowledge by providing expert theoretical and methodological analyses about issues surrounding the scientific method and applied investigation.
  7. Make the Universitat de València stand out in the fields of national and international research.
