Professor Juan Carlos Siurana, appointed vice-president of the Spanish Bioethics Committee (CBE)

Professor of Moral Philosophy in the Universitat de València Juan Carlos Siurana has been appointed vice-president of the Spanish Bioethics Committee. The committee has been recently renewed and the Health ministry, Carolina Darias, has appointed president Leonor Ruíz Sicilia, Psychiatrist of the Hospital Virgen de la Victoria de Málaga, and vice-president Professor Siurana.

Spanish Bioethics Committee is an advisory body on social and ethical matters related to biomedicine and Health Sciences. In this renovation it was included specialists in Philosophy, Neuroscience, Legal Medicine and Epidemiology.

Both Leonor Ruíz and Juan Carlos Siurana were proposed for the position, unanimously for the members of the Bioethics Committee.

Juan Carlos Siurana Aparisi is doctor in Philosophy and professor of Moral Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy of the Universitat de València where he coordinates the Doctoral Programme in Ethics and Democracy.

He is director of the Bioethics Research Group at the Universitat de València, coordinator of the Ibero-American Network of Bioethics Research Groups and researcher of the ÉTNOR Foundation (for the business and organisation ethics). The principal researcher of the research project about applied ethics and organiser of various international congresses of Bioethics.

He has been member, among others, of the Bioethics Committee of the Valencian Community. He has spent time at the University of Frankfurt, the Hasting Centre in New York and Georgetown University in Washington DC, among other international centres. Moreover, he is the author of several books.
