La Biblioteca de Ciències Socials Gregori Maians is celebrating a quarter of a century of service to the university community.
Inaugurated in 1999, it is the result of a project that began in the early 1990s and was developed by architects Giorgio Grassi and Manuel Portaceli, making it one of the most representative works of 20th-century Valencian architecture.
Over the past 25 years, the library has undergone continuous transformation. Its spaces and infrastructure have been adapted to new ways of learning and collaborative work; its collections have grown and diversified to meet the broad range of disciplines within the social sciences; technology has reshaped the services, facilitating access to information and digital tools; and both students and researchers have found in the library an increasingly specialized and supportive resource.
The 25th-anniversary celebration will take place on Thursday, September 18, at 11:00 a.m., in the lobby of the Biblioteca del Campus dels Tarongers at the Universitat de València. The event will include speeches by Carlos Hermenegildo, Vice-Rector for Research; Cristina Tomás, Director of the Servei de Biblioteques i Documentació; and the library’s director, Amelia López.
Following the opening speeches, there will be a toast with cava and a musical performance by the group RockAddiction, bringing the celebration to a festive close.
The entire university community is invited to join us in celebrating this very special anniversary. In addition, you can explore the history of the Biblioteca and visually follow its development through the interactive timeline available at this link.
