Chair of Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer
The Chair of Physical Exercise and Childhood Cancer is born with the will to promote the knowledge, research and transfer about the benefits of physical exercise in children with cancer during the oncologic treatment.
Financed by the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC), and with the collaboration of the Universitat de València (Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences) and the Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe, the Chair develops an individualized and supervised programme of physical exercise with a psychological track, that aims to minimise the alteration of the physical and psychological condition, consequence of the treatment, to improve the physical and emotional well-being of the children for this disease.
The Chair evaluates the physiologic, biomechanical and psychological impact that contributes to a better tolerance of the medical treatments and a better life quality, not only of the children, but also in their families. Due to the few evidence available in the childhood cancer field for not being frequent, the Chair pretends to locate themselves as a scientific and care referent in the incorporation of physical exercise as integrative part of the child oncologic treatment.
