La Nau Dance
Dansa València is part of the project to revitalize the professional dance sector in the Comunitat Valenciana, organized by the Institut Valencià de Cultura and the Conselleria d’Educació, Cultura, Universitats I Ocupació (Regional Ministry). Specifically, the festival is aimed at fostering a space for meetings and dialogue, using the body and movement as its main means of communication. Accordingly, it brings together projects from various professionals within the Valencian scene to give visibility to the social concerns that shape their creative processes.
In particular, aimed at promoting local programmes’ visibility, Dansa València –in collaboration with the Performing Arts Club at the Universitat de València– organises a sample of dance pieces intended for organisers of the Circuit Cultural Valencià, as well as other agents of the sector. The event follows the scene proposal suggested by the Focus València project, whose public announcement has chosen the choreography of five different creators, designed as a showcase (15 min). The event will be held on 15 April at 1 pm in Matilde Salvador Hall at La Nau:
- La Repetidora, «Curarse de espanto»
A scenic proposal of an intermedial nature combining dance, text, music, and scenography to explore the idea of the body as an archive, and the house as a living collective organism. The piece builds a poetic dreamlike universe, full of literary and sound references, where bodies interact with each other and transform, creating a sensory experience that breaks conventional narrative logic and places the audience in an immersive and symbolic space.
- Eyas Dance Project, «Oru & Kreya»
Drawing on science fiction imagery to explore the body’s sensory experience, the work follows two figures discovering matter, gravity, and contact for the first time, unfolding a physical and emotional journey marked by strangeness, transformation, and the intensity of the senses.
- Co. Pla Roig, «Oveja eléctrica»
Inspired by the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick, and the universe of the film Blade Runner, it explores the blurred border between human and artificial. The work invites us to think about identity and existence, questioning if human essence is something real or a symbolic construction invented to make sense of life. In this regard, a scenic imagery is displayed, turning the physical into a tool for introspection.
- Mar García and Javi Soler, «Un paso adelante»
It emerges from an intensive creation process with performers. The piece works as a device that encourages participants to overcome their own limits when getting involved in a creative project, showing both vulnerability and the power of the body on stage, so that this process becomes the actual dramaturgical lifeblood of the play.
- Eugenia Morera and Alba Elvira, «Pan y circo»
A contemporary dance duo that, from a critical and current point of view, takes as its starting point the literary topic panem et circenses to think about the means of distraction that are displayed by governing bodies to control the population. Drawing on physical language, the piece explores the tension between the body, performance, and consumption, questioning how entertainment and overstimulation can numb collective consciousness, while it reveals the fragility and exposure of the performer within that system.
Tickets can be booked in advance through Tenda de la Universitat.
