UNED offers the summer course "Bicentennial of the description of Iguanodon" at its Vila-real (Morella) campus from June 25 to 27, 2025.
The course is dedicated to Iguanodon, one of the most popular dinosaurs in the history of paleontology, whose 200th anniversary is commemorated this year. Iguanodon was the first dinosaur recognized in the Iberian Peninsula in a record shared by the towns of Utrillas in Teruel and Morella in Castellón. Currently, its group is one of the best documented in Spain, with Morella standing out as one of the most important record sites. A comprehensive review of the dinosaur world is proposed, exploring what we know about Iguanodon, from its earliest references in Victorian England to the major discoveries at the Bernissart coal mine. The course will also address the current state of knowledge, its presence in the Iberian record, and the application of new technologies to interpret these organisms from the past, as well as their presence in popular culture.
The course is completed with four hours of materials review and active student participation in the virtual course forum.
