High Pressure Semiconductor Physics XII

International Conference on High Pressure Semiconductor Physics (Jul. 31-Aug. 3 2006)

Accommodation

Accommodation is better available either in hotels downtown Barcelona or at the student dorms on the campus of the University of Barcelona. In particular, we have worked out a good deal with the Abba Garden Hotel, a four star hotel which offers for attendees of the HPSP-12 double rooms at 85 EUR + 7% TAX per night (without breakfast). This hotel is well connected with the CosmoCaixa Museum by bus, lines 60 and 22. For reservations please contact directly per email Mrs. Alba Pérez at cci-garden@abbahoteles.com or Fax +34-93-503 5455. Another hotel which is closer to the Museum is the Park Putxet Hotel Barcelona. Reservations at special rates can be done only via internet through the link to Park Putxet Hotel Barcelona. Although the Museum is within walking distance from the Putxet hotel, one can take the FGC train at the El Putxet station, one before Avinguda Tibidabo, the closest one to CosmoCaixa. Further alternatives at special prizes as well as low-cost accommodation in student dorms can be found through the following link: www.resa.es (since this link might cause troubles to connect there is an alternative but in Spanish at Residencia Resa). Here you will find two residencies in downtown Barcelona, one very close to the Ramblas (Residencia d'investigadors also at investigadors@resa.es), and one near Barceloneta (Campus del Mar) and the third one at the campus of Barcelona University (Torre Girona) close to the Abba Garden hotel. The cheapest accommodation is a hostel room (this might be not very secure since you would have to share the room with strangers unless traveling in a group).

Transportation

Public transportation within Barcelona is very good existing a variety of different means: subway trains (Metro), local federal trains (Cercanías de Renfe), state trains of the Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), transit buses and taxi service. The CosmoCaixa Museum can be reached by bus lines 17, 22, 58, 60, 73, 75 and FGC train (station Avinguda del Tibidabo). To travel from Vienna to Barcelona (for the ones attending the ICPS meeting the week before) there are some good offers from Austrian Airlines, Iberia, Czech Airlines and Air Berlin. A cheaper alternative flying from Bratislava to Barcelona is Sky Europe. There is a bus connecting both airports, which takes one hour for the trip (www.skyeurope.com).
