Julia Salom is a professor from the Faculty of Geography and History UV, as well as the main researcher of the INNODES research group from the Universitat de València.

The text reflects the demographic and urban reality of the metropolitan area of Valencia, which gathers more than one and a half million people. It also arises the idea of thinking about the area as a single functional city, more than a group of independent municipalities. From this figure, the article invites the reader to reconsider how this territory is understood, planned, and administrated, by emphasising that its population density puts it at the level of big urban conglomerations of the country.
Furthermore, the adaptation of public infrastructures, services and politics of this metropolitan reality is analysed beyond the traditional administration limits. The general focus indicates that formally acknowledging this big conurbation may facilitate more coordinated decisions about mobility, accommodation, and equipment, by improving the vision of how the people that live in this extensive urban area live, how they get along, and how they move from one place to another.
