URBAN SUSTAINABILITY AND COMPETITIVENESS IN A CONTEXT OF CHANGE. NEW ANALYSIS APPROACHES, CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES
The rapid changes in today's society are affecting traditional factors such as quality of life, competitiveness and society as a whole. This implies an important challenge for urban spaces, but also an opportunity for renewal that requires new innovation and transformation strategies in order to redefine new terms for sustainable development, equity, ecological values and civic awareness. This project aims to explore alternatives for sustainable development and competitiveness alternatives in Spanish cities, focusing on the analysis of some of the factors considered crucial for smart city development in today's context. In order to achieve this, TIG tools (cartography, GIS, modelling that enable us not to only represent and diagnose, but also to simulate and evaluate alternative scenarios aimed at diagnosing and designing urban proposals, as well as disseminating results and promoting participatory governance. The analysis focuses on the factors related to urban quality of life (accessibility to services and facilities, sustainable mobility, biodiversity, participatory governance), the city's position in global networks, human capital, and potential for social innovation.
