The Chair is directed by J.J. Martínez Durá, tenured university professor attached to the Department of Computer Science and the School of Engineering of the Universitat de València (ETSE-UV). He is the director of the LISITT research group belonging to the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC), of which he has been its director and secretary on several occasions.
The Universitat de València and the Valencia Provincial Council have signed an agreement with the creation of the new Chair of Intelligent and Sustainable Territories, a collaboration that seeks to address the current challenges of sustainability and technological development in the province. This space will serve to research and develop solutions that combine technology, citizen participation and sustainable resource management, promoting improvements in the quality of life in municipalities. The Chair prioritizes the support to little and medium localities that wish to implement innovative solutions but face barriers like the lack of technical knowledge and economic budget.
Among its functions, the chair will assist departments with data analysis and evaluation to adopt Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators, create dashboards for monitoring IoT devices and generate applications that optimise local management. With the aim of extending the concept of ‘smart territories’, training activities will be carried out and participation in innovative European initiatives will be promoted, creating an area of reference for sharing success stories and best practices between municipalities.
This effort is also articulated with the participation of the Institute of Robotics and Information and Communication Technologies (IRTIC) of the Universitat de València, of which Juan José Martínez Durá, director of the Chair, is a member, and which will be key to ensure the exchange of knowledge between academia and public administrations. In this way, the aim is to facilitate effective policies in a territory increasingly committed to sustainability and technological efficiency.
