RIALE’s main goals include:
- tracing the evolution of Spain’s image in German-speaking countries, independently of – or in confrontation with – the models coined by Weimar Classicism and Jena Romanticism, which based its image of Spain on the literature of earlier times and less on reality;
- situating these imagological studies within a European cultural and historical context, allowing for the reconstruction of the expectations created by literature and other media.
