The Human Rights Institute of the Universitat de València (IDH-UV), in collaboration with the New Right to the City Project, is organizing the seminar “Decent Housing for Older People”, which will be held on the morning of the Tuesday 10 May in the classroom 3P12 of the Faculty of Law.

According to professor Fernando Flores, director of the IDH-UV, “housing is of crucial importance in the ageing process of people, if it is to carried out in a dignified manner.” From this approach, the seminar suggest a conversation between the speakers and the specialized public about the main challenges and actions that are considered and carried out in this field. The final purpose, adds professor Flores, “is to obtain resources (the encounter will be recorded and will be available for the public) that could be useful to those who are interested in the older people rights in general and the right to housing in particular.”

The IDH-UV was created in 2005, and has as objectives to disseminate the values inherent to human rights, the creation of a framework of reflection and dialog on human rights, to develop research on human rights, to promote the dissemination of scientific works on human rights, and to encourage the teaching of human rights. In 2008, the Human Rights Institute of the Universitat de València obtained a financial aid of the Consolider-Ingenio 2010 programme. The institute is part of a project involving twelve research groups from different Spanish universities coordinated by the Human Rights Institute Bartolomé de las Casas from the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid. This was the first time a team of researchers of the legal field had obtained such a grant, mostly aimed at scientific contexts distant from the Humanities and Social Sciences.
