Welcome Event – Master’s Degree in Business Process Planning and Management 2025–2026

On October 6th, we held the welcome event for the Master’s Degree in Business Process Planning and Management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia.

The morning began at 10:30 with a presentation of the master’s program by its coordinators, who welcomed the new students and shared the main objectives and focus areas of the program. After a coffee break, which served as an opportunity to get to know each other and start building a sense of community, the central session of the event took place.

At 12:00, Rubén Ruiz, Principal Scientist at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Full Professor on leave from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, delivered the talk “No lo llames IA cuando quieres decir IO (Investigación Operativa). Historias desde la empresa.”

In a close and engaging session full of real-life examples, Rubén spoke about the role of Operations Research in today’s business and technological environment, showing how many solutions often attributed to artificial intelligence are, in fact, based on Operations Research models and techniques. It was a wonderful way to inaugurate the academic year — combining reflection, humor, and learning — and reminding us why planning and optimization remain essential in business process management.

Rubén was for many years a member of the Academic Committee and a professor in the master’s program, making his participation in this event especially meaningful. This master’s program is, and always will be, his home.
