Mónica Núñez Martínez, student of the Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, defended her Master’s Degree Final Project (TFM) ‘Upcycling and recyclability of polyolefins from marine waste for sustainable applications’ carried out in AIMPLAS and co-directed by José David Badia Valiente and Javier Grau Forner.
The study focuses on the use of recycled plastics from marine waste, including also post-consumer waste and foaming agent, with the aim to create new materials within a circular economy model.
Among the most distinguished results, the viability of transforming marine waste into useful and stable materials was confirmed. Furthermore, it was proved that it can accomplish lighter and homogeneous structures thanks to the foaming and it has been proved that these developments can generate an added value and contribute to a more responsible and sustainable production.
