Research Group in Materials Technology And Sustainability (MATS): Goals

MATS

The Research Group in Materials technology and sustainability (MATS) from the Department of Chemical Engineering of the School of Engineering (ETSE) of the Universitat de València focus their research activity in the design, development, characterisation and validation of preparation technologies and functionalisation of materials with a cross-sectional character, and with a focus on sustainability inside the concept of circular economy.

The scientific-technical goals of the MATS group are:

  • Developing technologies for the obtaining and functionalisation of (nano/micro) fibres and polymeric films and composites.
  • Research the correlation between the physic-chemical proprieties of the materials with a polymeric basis and their output in service conditions.
  • Designing, producing and optimising the operation of devices of membrane of polymeric basis for their application in environmental technologies.
  • Developing biorefinery processes of lignocellulosic material for the obtaining of functionalised materials.
  • Evaluating the material, chemical, energetic and biological alternatives of valorisation of plastic-origin waste.
  • Developing extraction and advanced reaction techniques through supercritical fluids or ionic liquids, as support for the purification and polymerisation processes.
  • Developing of composites encapsulation processes of interest through sol-gel and spray drying for their posterior incorporation to polymeric matrixes.
