The project will be carried out in collaboration with the entity AIMPLAS Technological Institute of Plastics, UBE Corporation Europe, and FA ZIKNESS.
The Valencian Institute of Competitiveness and Innovation IVACE+i (Valencian Government) has granted the MATS group the REDES4VALUE project (INNEST/2024/313), in collaboration with AIMPLAS · Technological Institute of Plastics, UBE Corporation Europe, and FA ZIKNESS, to develop valorization strategies that transform fishing nets into high value-added products through advanced technologies.
REDES4VALUE aims primarily to valorize fishing nets recovered from coastal areas to obtain high value-added products, such as PA6 and high-quality copolyamides that meet strict technical specifications. These materials can be used in formulations for blown film extrusion, injection-molded parts for the automotive sector and consumer goods, as well as in the manufacturing of items through large-format 3D printing.
Through advanced technologies such as mechanical recycling, reactive extrusion, and chemical recycling, the project seeks to reduce marine pollution and transform these nets into optimized materials for various productive applications. Our work, led by researcher Amparo Chafer, is focused on developing chemical recycling strategies. The project promotes sustainable and innovative solutions aligned with the principles of the circular economy.
