The Department of Mathematics was created as a result of the merger of the former Departments of Algebra, Geometry and Topology, and Applied Mathematics, approved by Agreement 30/2016 of March 9, 2016, of the Governing Council of the University of Valencia.

The Department is the teaching and research unit responsible for coordinating teaching in accordance with the University's programming and promoting research and other university activities in the areas of Algebra, Geometry and Topology, and Applied Mathematics. Its members participate in projects, agreements, and contracts with national and international companies and public administrations.
