Variables bio psico sociales orientadas a la mejora de la calidad de vida en el ciclo vital. La trayectoria de José Manuel Tomás en la temática cuya línea de investigación dirige es reconocida, ha codirigido con Amparo Oliver proyectos competitivos longitudinales en la materia bajo convocatoria Retos de MICIN/AEI/FEDER. Actualmente 2021-2022 junto a Laura Badenes es Director del Máster Oficial en Atención Sociosanitaria a la Dependencia de la Universidad de Valencia. Los objetivos científico técnicos se centran en identificar las variables que más influyen en la calidad de vida de los envejecientes, cómo se relacionan entre sí y cómo podemos actuar sobre ellas acorde a modelos teóricos de referencia desde diversas culturas. Investigamos tanto en el ámbito de los denominados envejecientes de éxito (como pueden ser personas activas y saludables que atienden programas educativos para adultos mayores), como personas mayores que viven en comunidad o aquellos que se encuentran institucionalizados. Las investigaciones con alcance nacional e internacional de los miembros del equipo en esta línea se plasman en revistas de impacto y pasan por colaboraciones en investigaciones en la materia con investigadores de nuestra universidad propia universidad, o colaboraciones con universidades como UNCC Charlotte en USA, Universidad Privada del Norte en Lima-Perú o Universidad de Costa Rica.
