“Ediciones Morata in the Spanish Academic Culture of the Twentieth Century. Scientific Books and the Transmission of Knowledge”, given by Jaime del Rey Tapia from the Complutense University of Madrid.

The seminar will offer an excellent opportunity for doctoral students and early-career researchers interested in research processes in the field of the history of education and school culture. Drawing on the experience of his doctoral thesis Ediciones Morata: The Presence of a Family Publishing Project in Twentieth-Century Culture, Jaime del Rey Tapia will provide a reflection on the stages of doctoral research development, addressing methodological aspects, initial findings, dissemination strategies, and subsequent lines of inquiry. His talk will offer a practical and analytical perspective on how to integrate the empirical, theoretical, and outreach dimensions of a doctoral thesis in the educational sciences.

Jaime del Rey Tapia is an Aeronautical Engineer, Doctor of Education, graduate in Business Administration, holder of a Diploma in Tax Law, and Master’s in Pedagogy. He developed his professional career between 1972 and 2012 in service companies, and has also collaborated as a lecturer with various institutions and business schools, as well as an expert for the European Commission, evaluating R&D projects in the fields of ICT and Education. He has been a member of the editorial board of Innovación (EOI and MIT), consultant for monographic studies on innovation and technology, and the author of several books and articles.
In March 2018, he defended his doctoral thesis Ediciones Morata: The Presence of a Family Publishing Project in Twentieth-Century Culture, and from May 2017 to September 2024 he served as an Honorary Collaborator at the Complutense University of Madrid, working primarily at the Complutense Museum of Education. He currently continues his research and dissemination activity through papers and publications in three main areas: continuing education and new technologies; the publishing environment; and museums and material school culture.

This activity is organised in collaboration with the Department of Comparative Education and History of Education and the Culture Committee of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education Sciences, University of Valencia.
Attendance at the seminars “Lights and Shadows of Spanish Vocational Education and Training” and “Ediciones Morata in the Spanish Academic Culture of the Twentieth Century” will be certified for students enrolled in the Doctoral Programme in Education at the University of Valencia.
