The Research Group on Educational Policies, Interculturality and Society (POLISOC) at the University of Valencia, within the framework of its Interuniversity Seminar, is pleased to invite you to the presentation of the book:
La extrema derecha en Europa, presented by its author, Anna López Ortega, from the International University of Valencia (VIU).
Date: Monday, 20 April 2026
Time: 12:00 pm
Venue: Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences, University of Valencia
Room: Salón de Grados, 1st floor
Address: Avenida Blasco Ibáñez, 30, 46010 Valencia, Spain
This seminar will provide an excellent opportunity for doctoral candidates and early-career researchers interested in gaining insight into some of the social and political processes that have led, in contemporary Europe, to the resurgence of a far right seemingly prepared to erode the foundations of a democratic political culture that, until recently, much of the population had regarded as beyond question.
In her book, the author examines the trajectory—and transformation—of the far right from the end of the Second World War to its arrival at the very centre of the European democratic system, at a time when a certain political culture, though many wished to believe it had disappeared, in fact remained latent in a number of social enclaves that kept its ideological embers alive.
The book also puts forward proposals to counter this rise, arguing that it is essential to revitalise the ideological principles of those political traditions—conservative, liberal and social-democratic—that began to decline when they embraced neoliberal dogma.
The discussion will offer participants the opportunity to raise questions, share reflections, and debate different viewpoints, proposals and alternatives.
