The past 18 of July in the House of the Culture of Calasparra the Cycle of Conferences was celebrated. 'Paleochristian Archaeology in Calasparra', organized by Dr. David Martínez Chico of the Department of Prehistory and Ancient History of the University of Valencia.

Each speaker showed their knowledge of the period and the area, offering us a great quality.
Once the event was introduced by Dr. Marcos Alonso Bote, director of the Permanent Headquarters of the UMU in Calasparra and Antonio Merino, councillor for Culture and Heritage, the plenary session was opened by Dr. David Martínez Chico, from the University of Valencia, and Rubén Fernández Tristante, professional archaeologist, on the first archaeological intervention in Cerro de la Virgen. This was followed by a masterly lecture by Dr. Antonio Manuel Poveda Navarro, from the Archaeological Museum of Elda, on the political organisation of the territory and how the bishops were in charge of economic and social management.
The third conference was given by Francisco Manuel Peñalver Aroca, from the Archaeological Museum of Cehegín, with a solid vision of the site and the Visigothic city of Begastri, the governing and episcopal see of a large part of the Hispanic southeast. Finally, the cycle of conferences closed with a ceramic dissertation by Jesús Peidro Blanes, from the Museo de Alfarería de Agost, delving into how and when Late Antique pottery was produced, consumed and amortised between the 5th and 7th centuries AD.

The excavation campaign involves the participation of students from the Degree in History at the University of Valencia.
