It will take place on 26 May in Paris.
The Department of Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History presents in Paris the digital catalogue monedaiberica.org developed within the ARCH Transnational Project, at the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
Professor Pere Pau Ripollés and Doctor Manuel Gozálvez will talk about the content of the digital catalogue Iberian Coinage, which includes all the monetary production of the Iberian Peninsula and the south of France from the 6th to the 1st centuries BC.
In recent years, the presence of ancient coinage on the worldwide web has been transformed by the creation of online typologies, designed to categorise the myriad coinages of the Greaco-Roman world. Many users are now familiar with resources devoted to Roman coinage such as CRRO, OCRE, and RPC Online. Until recently, the Greek world was more fragmented. In September 2022 the ARCH Portal was launched in an aim to change that. Within a single tool, searches across a group of separately conceived and published regional corpora of ‘Greek’ coinage are now unified. This webinar/seminar is designed to introduce both the ARCH Portal and the individual corpora that underlie it. What is included? How is it organised? What results can I expect? How can I contribute? It is the aim of this seminar to answer all these questions and more. Participants are welcome to join us for those sections that seem most relevant to them, and they are welcome to join in person or online.
