Goals

  • Conduct and improve research in the field of quality of life promotion. This research is inherently applied, as it involves working with diverse groups facing unique challenges and issues. It provides valuable insights into identifying new difficulties and developing solutions. Given the complexity of the data and hypotheses, it is necessary to evolve the current methods, as many procedures have been found inadequate or outdated. The hand-on experience of the group enables them to provide technical support in design and data analysis to other research groups, as well as on-demand training in specific competencies in their field of work or applied research. They also offer research solutions using quantitative and qualitative methodology to promote knowledge transfer within the field.
  • Demonstrate the adequacy of different theoretic approaches to explaining quality of life through evidence based on data collected within a chosen framework.
  • Provide information, support, consultations and regular updates, with a focus on complex statistical research methods, particularly multivariate techniques utilizing structural equation modelling.
  • Validate scales, questionnaires, interventions and guided protocols in order to improve the fields related to quality of life, beginning with a thorough diagnosis.
  • Design and conduct sampling and testing procedures and carry out the management, cleansing, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of data related to different fields, including those of health, education and organisations. For instance, in the field of education (preschool, primary, secondary, university and adult education), research focuses on variables related to students’ skills, attitudes, engagement, performance and quality of learning, as well as teachers’ organisational commitment, burnout and initiative. The research may be based on a single region or country, or it may focus on several countries in order to draw cross-cultural comparisons. This research is often sponsored by quality assurance agencies, international cooperation agencies or public administrations responsible for evaluating the quality of education.
  • Promote social commitment actions supported by framework agreements, OTRI contracts, design and supervision of service learning and presence in forums or work groups relevant to informed decision-making. In order for the administration to make informed decisions, it is crucial to have rigorous and evidence-based information from scientific studies on citizenship.

The group possess several competencies to achieve these objectives:

  1. A theoretical foundation that is regularly updated through systematic research and presence in forums.
  2. The design and implementation of printed and online surveys.
  3. The use of programmes such as SPSS, JASP, EQS, Mplus, R, with a wide range of estimation methods in accordance with the type of data and research needs. In some cases, the use of a frequentist and Bayesian approach.
  4. Estimation, interpretation and reporting of multisampling models, multilevel models, multi-trait or multi-method models and longitudinal models, latent growth curve modelling.
  5. Research by meta-analysis.
