Development of a contrast sensitivity perimeter, with stimuli favouring the responses of a single mechanism (achromatic, red-green or blue-yellow), using chromatically and spatio-temporally tuned stimuli.

Description

The diagnostic capabilities of a psychophysical test for detection of visual losses improves when the number of mechanisms mediating the visual task is small.

In this project, we explore the possibility of measuring contrast sensitivity at different regions of the visual field, using stimuli favouring detections by an achromatic mechanism, either of magno or parvocellular origen, or bya chromatic red-green and blue-yellow mechanisms. This is accomplished by adjusting the chromatic and spatio-temporal characteristics of the stimuli, as shown in the figure:

The project's aim is to develop a perimeter for detecting and quantifying functional losses in these visual mechanisms, particularly in pathologies such as glaucoma.
