What do we offer?

The Social Neuroscience research group encompasses the three main aspects of academic activity: teaching, research and intervention.

Teaching: The research group is responsible for the direction and management of the UV specific Master’s Degree in Neurocriminology, a specialised university proposal focused on the neurobiological mechanisms of violent behaviour. It is well known that knowledge of the psychobiological factors involved in violent behaviour can be of great help in diagnosing the predisposition to violence, thereby setting in motion suitable interventions and treatment for its prevention. The right knowledge and training also assist in the assessment of recidivism among violent people and in the delivery of effective treatment. In light of these considerations, the UV specific Master’s Degree in Neurocriminology responds to the aforementioned issues, and provides training for professionals that are interested in or related to the field.

Research: The research group is a beneficiary of various ongoing national and regional projects. The most noteworthy of these include:

  • The 2019 R+D+I Retos Investigación project that focused on the assessment, from a biopsychosocial perspective, of protection and risk factors in men serving a sentence for gender-based violence.
  • The R+D+I project for research groups of excellence (Prometeo 2022), titled “From micro to macro: a bio-psycho-social research project on genderbased violence”.

Intervention: The Social Neuroscience group performs assessment and intervention work with sentenced people by collaborating with the Valencia’s Servicio de Gestión de Penas y Medidas Alternativas (sentences and alternative measures management service) and the Contexto Programme, a UV research and intervention team dedicated to the study, training, intervention and prevention of genderbased violence.
