Renato Accorinti

Renato Accorinti is an Italian activist and politician, mayor of Messina from 2013 to 2018 and of the metropolitan city of Messina from 2016 to 2018. He was among the founders of the 'No Ponte' movement, which opposes the construction of the bridge over the Strait of Messina. In the 1970s he joined various radical initiatives on conscientious objection (becoming provincial representative of the League of Objectors) and the Brussels-Warsaw Caravan for Disarmament, demonstrating in the most militarised European cities against the deployment of armaments by both NATO and the Warsaw Pact. After meeting Pietro Pinna in Perugia, he founded the Messina Nonviolent Movement with other activists in 1979.

Renato Accorinti è un attivista e politico italiano, sindaco di Messina dal 2013 al 2018 e della città metropolitana di Messina dal 2016 al 2018. È stato tra i fondatori del movimento "No Ponte", che si oppone alla costruzione del Ponte sullo stretto di Messina. Negli anni settanta aderisce a varie iniziative radicali sull'obiezione di coscienza (divenendo rappresentante provinciale della lega degli obiettori) e alla Carovana per il Disarmo Bruxelles-Varsavia, manifestando, nelle città europee maggiormente militarizzate, contro il dispiegamento di armamenti da parte sia della NATO sia del Patto di Varsavia. Dopo aver incontrato Pietro Pinna a Perugia, nel 1979 fonda, insieme a altri attivisti, il Movimento Nonviolento messinese.
