The UNESCO-UV Chair’s main goal is to promote the global education of young generations, especially in those important ethical values that humanity cannot lose, such as the ability to advocate for world change from a peace perspective, intercultural dialogue and sustainable development.

These purposes and objectives correspond to UNESCO’s priorities, in particular those included in objective No 2 of “Education Strategy 2014-2021”: Empowering learners to be creative and responsible global citizens; in objective No 4, “Medium-term Strategy, 2008-2013”: Fostering cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace; and in the 16th goal of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2015-2030: Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies for the sustainable development.

As a summary, we highlight the following short and long-term objectives:

• PEACE AND INTERCULTURALITY - To research and spread the best practices in the field of education to promote a “Culture of peace” and the intercultural and interfaith dialogue through a holistic and an interdisciplinary approach. This implies a peaceful and non-violent negotiation of the conflicts, in order to foster “peaceful, just and inclusive societies which are free from fear and violence”.
• GLOBAL EDUCATION - To study the relationship between conflict and development, between security and disarmament, featuring the inseparable bond between peace and justice, peace and ecology, art and ecology, interculturality and peace, esteem for the natural environment and the right of all the human beings to live in peace.
• MIGRATION AND THE MEDITERRANEAN - To perform studies and have a wide approach at an international level regarding the migration in the Mediterranean area, with the idea of driving the education of global citizens through the creation of “Intercultural pathways” in school institutions.
• PEDAGOGY AND EMPOWERING - To propose an experimental pedagogical review of the curriculums, including textbooks and the contents of school manuals, with the aim of fostering the citizen empowering against discrimination, isolation, exclusion and violence. The Edutainment project intends to promote the figure of an Educator/Digital Entertainer at an international level, capable of teaching in an innovative manner through the conscious use of new technologies: flipped lesson and classroom
• SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPEMENT - To make an international project for social awareness and education related to the objectives of the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 that concern the dimensions of social, environmental and economic sustainability (“PACE”, meaning a Participative development, with Appropriate values and technologies, Critically conscious and Ecologically Sustainable, capable of guaranteeing the habitability of the Earth for the future generations).
